AOSA Coffee

A print and display company built this room for itself in 2014, with its own designers on it: curved bent-plywood tub chairs, teal-painted steel stretchers and a large abstract mural fabricated as one material system. Twelve years on it is still one room, Keyana Hill's, and the coffee is the unresolved half — house-roasted in one place, sourced from local roasters in another, with no roaster named either way.

The lineup runs a $7 pour-over, cold brew steeped more than 21 hours, and an espresso base of single-origin Brazil, but the sourcing contradicts itself — house-roasted by one of the shop's own claims, outside local roasters by another — and no roaster is named anywhere. It opened in 2014 pouring Stumptown exclusively.

The furniture here was fabricated rather than bought: curved bent-plywood tub chairs, plywood X-frame tables on teal-painted steel stretchers, and a plywood banquette wall carrying the same teal inlay, all over polished concrete under a large abstract mural. AoSA's own designers and finish contractors built it in a little over seven months, which is the advantage of opening a cafe out of a print-and-display company.
