Penny Coffee Roasters
Four pour-overs by lot name, under a 1948 bakery's barrel vaults
Curator’s note
A food-hall counter running four named lots on manual brew is more program than that format usually attempts, and Penny roasts every one of them itself, from green bought on a relationship basis. The retail shelf runs ten coffees with origin, varietal and process, including a Pink Bourbon and a Gesha from the same Colombian producer.
The coffee
Roasted in house every Monday and Tuesday, with origin, varietal and process on the bags — a Gera, Jimma natural from Ethiopia and a Colombian Pink Bourbon among the ten retail lots — though no product page prints a roast date.
This is a counter rather than a room of its own: Penny works a stall inside Glendora Public Market, the San Gabriel Valley food hall built into a 1948 Helms Bakery. A roastery running Mondays and Tuesdays inside a building that opened as a bakery is tidier continuity than most cafes ever get.
