Rosebud Coffee
A nonprofit-owned cafe on Figueroa, where the bar is also a job-training floor.
Curator’s note
The pour-over list runs five single origins at $7, roasted by the nonprofit that owns the place on a Bellwether system at its Pasadena cafe. The bar is worked by youth interns under staff supervision, which makes this a training floor with a cafe on top of it — Angelica Solis came through the program, earned a Specialty Coffee Association Barista Certificate and was hired full time.
The coffee
The coffee is roasted in-house on a Bellwether system the nonprofit acquired in fall 2022 with foundation money, though the roaster itself sits at the Pasadena cafe — Highland Park sells beans roasted there rather than roasting its own. Nine bags are on the retail list, including a $30 co-ferment and three house blends, with product pages naming origin, farm, process and tasting notes but no varietal and no roast date.
A full-facade mustard sunburst mural with red door and window trim marks the storefront, and inside a curved white archway motif repeats around the room — a plant ledge built into the millwork, a terracotta accent wall, a circular rose-logo sign, dark burgundy banquettes. The nonprofit that owns Rosebud put the design budget where its trainees actually stand, and the room reads as somebody’s real idea rather than a fit-out.
