Daydream Surf Shop
An art gallery up front, the coffee bar behind open garage doors, surfboards in between.
Curator’s note
Becca Mantei drew the blueprints for this warehouse herself and is credited down to the furniture, the colors and the textures; the bar buys like a serious multi-roaster: Onyx, Sey, Manhattan, Proud Mary, DAK, April, The Barn. Today's board carries no origin language and no pour-over, which is a waste of a counter buying coffee that good.
The coffee
Daydream is a multi-roaster bar with no roasting on site — founding account was Sightglass, its only account south of LA, since joined by Onyx, Sey, Manhattan, Proud Mary, DAK, April and The Barn. Retail runs two house blends developed with True Love Coffee Co and roasted by Lee Lizotte, Calypso and Misty Morning, both labeled by country and process but with no farm, varietal or roast date.
Co-founder Becca Mantei designed the room down to the shapes of the furniture and the displays, and the 2022 move into the 16th Street warehouse kept her sequence intact — an art gallery in front, surfboards and ceramics through the middle, the coffee bar behind open garage doors at the back. A peacock chair sits in the middle of it for anyone who wants to flip through the racks slowly.
