Neat Coffee

The room is the draw: a Rad the Studio buildout with its makers named — Sean Woolsey's big table, ceramics by Catherine Rex of Rex Design. The coffee is the quieter half, a multi-roaster bar on regional partners rather than a program of its own, with Civil Coffee of Highland Park pouring the house espresso.

Neat roasts nothing on site; the current bar runs on regional partners, with Civil Coffee of Highland Park supplying the house espresso — the La Unión lot — and Arcade Coffee Roasters of Riverside in retail. House-branded bags run $9 to $9.50 and list region and process only — Ethiopia Aricha Adorsi, Guatemala HER Huehuetenango — with no roast date, producer, or varietal.

Rad the Studio handled the bar, the mural, the finishes and the lighting, with Sean Woolsey building the long table, benches and floating shelves and Amigo Modern supplying the seating. Ten months of renovation and a $43,890 Kickstarter went into a room the studio describes as fresh and peaceful, which is a lot of work to make something look easy.
